The Prob­lem

A builders’ mer­chants had iden­ti­fied sig­nif­i­cant theft of stock. The com­pa­ny want­ed help to con­firm the iden­ti­ty of the perpetrator/​s and secure evi­dence to enable a suc­cess­ful prosecution.

The Approach

MIT­MARK Intel­li­gence held small, dis­crete meet­ings with the com­pa­ny to famil­iarise our­selves with the back­ground to the case, to under­stand the company’s objec­tives and require­ments and to dis­cuss and agree the scope of work and cours­es of action.

The com­pa­ny want­ed MIT­MARK Intel­li­gence to pro­vide intel­li­gence and insight to inform a com­pre­hen­sive inves­ti­ga­tion process and to pro­vide evi­dence of crim­i­nal activ­i­ty. The com­pa­ny did not want to alter its oper­a­tional approach or process­es until the perpetrator/​s had been iden­ti­fied and suf­fi­cient evi­dence had been gath­ered to enable the com­pa­ny to pur­sue pros­e­cu­tion. There­after, the com­pa­ny was keen to have MIT­MARK advice in rela­tion to pre­vent­ing future such sce­nar­ios and to ensure their peo­ple, oper­a­tions and assets were secure.

Using mul­ti­ple intel­li­gence tech­niques and tools, MIT­MARK Intel­li­gence inves­ti­ga­tors researched and pro­duced com­pre­hen­sive reports in rela­tion to the activ­i­ty and sus­pect­ed perpetrator/​s, includ­ing iden­ti­fy­ing poten­tial leads to devel­op action­able intel­li­gence and insight to secure evi­dence of crim­i­nal activity.

The Out­come

The insight, oper­a­tions and exper­tise deliv­ered enabled suf­fi­cient intel­li­gence to gen­er­ate police involve­ment and to direct police activ­i­ty. This led to the police, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with MIT­MARK spe­cial­ists, to catch the indi­vid­u­als in the act and in pos­ses­sion of stolen goods. Legal and pros­e­cu­tion ele­ments were there­after tak­en up by the police and the retail­er. MIT­MARK sub­se­quent­ly pro­vid­ed the retail­er with a suite of rec­om­men­da­tions to opti­mise and improve the secu­ri­ty and integri­ty of the company’s operations.
