Geopolitical insight required to inform the potential acquisition of a mining operation

The Problem

Our client was considering the acquisition of a mining operation and wanted an in-depth and comprehensive geopolitical assessment to inform his decision-making and enable a greater understanding of the geopolitical risks and opportunities.

The Approach

We held an introductory meeting with the client to discuss the background, context and strategic acquisition details at length in order to confirm and agree the scope of the assessment and the primary requirements. We recommended that the assessment provided a forecast of associated future geopolitical developments and threats and an assessment of the current risks and opportunities. We advised the client that we would require further engagement to ensure a well-informed understanding of the client’s business, operations and intentions so as to inform the focus of the assessment accordingly.

The Outcome

We produced a comprehensive geopolitical assessment to meet the client’s requirements, informing his decision-making about the acquisition of the asset. We talked the client through our assessment and judgements and provided plenty of time for questions, discussion and debate of the analysis and the So What’ factor. We were subsequently asked by the client to deliver a follow-on Courses of Action analysis product for a related business venture.
